Do you sell directly to homeowners?
Yes. Please feel free to contact us directly and discuss your project.
How much time does it take to get an estimate?
That depends on how big the job is. Generally an estimate can be done in a week to two weeks. It is best to get an estimate as far in the future as possible. You can get an estimate before you even start to build. We can reserve a block of time to ensure that the work will be done according to your schedule. Estimates are good for 90 days.
How much does it cost for an estimate?
There is no charge for the estimate if floor plans, elevations and specifications are provided. If not, there will be a charge and it will be deducted from total price if we do the job for you.
Do you need to take measurements before I can get an estimate?
No, we can do an estimate from a set of plans. Later we will take measurements after the
walls are framed in, to insure that the plans and the actual measurements are the same.
Can you do an estimate of what I want from a picture?
Yes. All we need is the picture and how large the space is. If you don't know exactly what you
want, we can give you some ideas and go from there.
After I receive an estimate, how do I make a change?
After you have the estimate we will go over any changes that need to be made to satisfy you. That will cost you nothing; however, once we start building and you change your mind those changes do cost.
I have an older historic home. I want to replace the windows. Can you replicate the original windows?
Yes. This is something we have a great deal of experience with.
What is a setup charge?
This is a charge applied to smaller orders for the labor involved in setting up the machines to produce moulding. Whether this charge will apply or not depends on the quantity of moulding you wish to order.
What is a knife charge?
Knives are the blades needed for producing a particular moulding pattern. This charge is for grinding a knife to match a custom pattern. The knives remain the property of Appalachian Millworks and will be available for your future use.
Can you match a pattern I have?
Yes. We grind our own knives in house and can match any moulding pattern. We need an actual sample of your moulding, if possible, or a very good side view drawing, noting its exact dimensions.
What type of wood do you use?
We primarily use ash, birch, butternut, cherry, hickory, maple, oak and poplar. See the Wood section of this site for more information on those woods. If you would like another wood, just ask us and we will order it for you.
Do you apply stain or finish to your products?
No. We do not apply stain or finish to any of our products.
